DIZZINESS-Whoa, Hang On
There are two primary types of dizziness, sometimes known as Vertigo. The are (1) inner ear and (2) circulatory. Both types may be produced by drugs, accidents or by merely whirling about rapidly like many of us did as children.

Alternative Goes Mainstream
Chiropractic, herbs, acupuncture and other so-called "alternative treatments" are clearly here to stay. And boomers aren't the only ones embracing them.

Their children--and their parents-are trying everything from aromatherapy to yoga to stay healthy or get well, according to a new survey by Harvard Medical School researchers. The survey found that 68 per cent of adults have used at least one kind of alternative or complementary therapy. Nearly half stuck with one treatment for as long as 20 years.

That Tingling Feeling
The foot is a remarkable mechanism and is as complex as any system in the body. Containing 26 bones, ligaments, tendons, muscles, a complicated nerve supply; it isn't surprising that it is reported that 75% of Americans complain of foot problems each year.

Pain is a familiar symptom. What about a "Tingling Sensation" that doesn't hurt, but keeps recurring. We've heard people say: "Don't worry about it. Your foot's just asleep." That is a familiar sensation to us all. You cross your leg and then find that it has gone numb. The ensuing "pins and needles" sensation is referred to as "gone to sleep."

Back Packs and Back Pain
The amount of weight carried by children in their backpacks deserves serious consideration. Loading the spine risks low back pain not only in adults but in children; the load that children commonly carry is their school backpack. To quantify how much weight children likely carry in their backpacks, researchers from Milan, Italy ascertained the weight of backpacks used by sixth graders at several schools.
